Other than seeing Iowa for the first time, I came for the Bridges of Madison County and to see where John Wayne was born and the small museum in his honor. As it turned out, I got much more than that. Winterset is a small, friendly, quaint town in Madison county, that I found charming and a place that would be easy to live in. The wide streets with over handing trees, friendly people, and country charm was complemented by the sound of the noon test fire siren and the ringing of the town church bell on the hour in the town square. Something you don't hear that often.
Seeing the Duke and the photographic clips of his movies was exciting along with the small informative museum in his birth home. Clint and the Duke, how could any fan be disappointed?
The movie and the book, The Bridges of Madison County, have always been a favorite for me and I have watched the movie many times. It was a thrill to drive down the same country roads that you see in movie.
More of a thrill was eating in the same cafe that you see Clint go into and find out about all the gossip in the town. You've read my profile, I am a major Clint Eastwood fan and of course Meryl Strep, a great actress.
The question arises.....fiction or non fiction? Your guess, your call. Me, I choose to believe it as fact. The romantic in me I guess.
Enjoy a few photos. TC...
Not from the move, just scenic.
